West of town Amateur Radio

WOTAR is an amateur radio talk group that has been around for over 30 years.

For the present it is limited to 2 meters in the Dallas/Ft.Worth area. WOTAR is for West of town Amateur radio because everyone is west of some town. That being said anyone who can talk to us is invited to join in and be a part of the WOTAR network.

Since we operate simplex as well as through the Fort Worth repeater on 145.33 (110.9 tone), a good signal is highly desirable and the group operates over a two or three county area, but for the most part if you can hear us we can hear you, so give us a try. We operate FM and on 145.33 we sometimes do C4FM (fusion). A few of us operate mostly on digital so it's best to have a radio that does digital. There are no dues, no fees, no meetings, no clubhouse, and very few rules involved. We just talk and enjoy each others conversation. You can find us on FM 145.33 MHz repeater (110 tone) or 146.420 simplex (110 tone) in the mornings or evenings till early morning although we are known to be on anytime. On simplex we use a tone because some people prefer to use digital modes to communicate and we would rather not listen to digital noise.

We all enjoy running simplex and hope that others will take part, dial us up and try your signal out, you may be surprised.

Your random lingo is YL = "Young Lady"; meaning varies by context of use. Can infer a girlfriend, or, simply a female e.g. "She's my YL...", or "...she is a YL operator".
